Polyoxymethylene (POM)
Polyoxymethaline/Acetal (POM) is an engineering thermoplastic valued for its rigidity, wear resistance, dimensional stability, wide range of chemical resistances and lubricity. Its major drawbacks are its high specific gravity and inability to be flame-proofed. While it cant be painted, it can come in many molded in colors. Both homopolymer and copolymer are available, each with its own distinct strengths. The homopolymer tends to be stronger, harder and has better abrasion and heat resistances. The copolymer is generally easier to process, has better flow characteristics and has better chemical resistance. Common applications may include gears, bearings, bushings, conveyor belt links, zippers, clips, fuel system components, electrical applications, seat belt buttons, cranks and handles. Nagase offers various grades of POM. Please contact us for more information.
