Polycarbonate (PC)
Polycarbonate is an amorphous engineering thermoplastic that has a high heat resistance, high impact strength, good dimensional stability and can be made transparent. Also, aside from its poor arc resistance, it has exceptional insulating characteristics. PC does tend to be abrasion prone and has limited chemical resistance. However, coatings can be applied to increase the chemical resistance. Interestingly, PC was used in Apollo astronaut helmets. Current applications include CDs and DVDs, films, automotive lighting, laptop shells, printers and cameras. Because it is shatterproof and can be curved, its usability for automotive window applications is being explored and expanded.
Nagase offers various grades of PC. Please contact us for more information.
