Vinavil
Introducing versatile polymer chemistries for decorative and protective coatings
Learn how Nagase America and VINAVIL can help you formulate high performance low VOC coatings for concrete, masonry, wood, and metal substrates.
Each coatings project has its own unique challenges that formulators must overcome. Systems must adhere well to the surfaces they will coat and endure the conditions they will be exposed to, and it can be difficult to meet these and other performance requirements while also achieving sustainability targets.
Nagase America is proudly partnered with VINAVIL, a leading polymers producer serving the building and construction markets. VINAVIL offers a variety of polymer chemistries specially tailored to improve the performance of concrete, masonry, wood, and direct-to-metal (DTM) coatings.
See below for select material highlights from the Crilat product line to learn how we can help you achieve your coatings project goals.

Exterior wood coatings must provide an attractive appearance as well as protection from water and sunlight. Wood coatings must account for the natural properties of the wood, allowing for continued adhesion and durability throughout its life, while also enhancing its character.
Crilat 7829 NA is a high performance acrylic emulsion designed for use in water-based exterior wood coatings applications such as clear and pigmented finishes, intermediate coats, impregnation, and water-based enamel paints. It enables exceptional wood penetration properties without obscuring the wood grain.
Pure acrylic composition
Free from alkylphenol-ethoxylates (APEO-free)
Formaldehyde free
Self-crosslinking
Nanoparticle sized

Benefits
- Very high blocking resistance / high stackability
- High transparency
- High weathering resistance
- Excellent wet and dry adhesion
- Good water resistance
- Good elasticity
- Good rheological behavior

Decorative sealers for concrete and masonry surfaces must provide both appealing visual properties and thorough protection from external stress. It can be difficult to obtain an attractive glossy wet look while also producing a lasting tough and durable film that can withstand weather damage, stains, dirt, and wear from vehicle and foot traffic. Solvent borne systems can perform well in this sense, but low VOC requirements have directed formulators to exploring more environmentally friendly solutions, which often fail to provide a wet look to surfaces while maintaining desirable film properties.
Crilat 5850 is a novel acrylic latex emulsion that enables the production of high performance and low VOC decorative sealers (horizontal and vertical) and coatings for concrete and masonry surfaces. Crilat 5850 is highly versatile for formulating clear, tinted, and opaque coatings for interior and exterior applications, including challenging applications such as garage floor coatings.

In addition to aesthetics, direct-to-metal coatings must protect from weathering and corrosion. While anticorrosive pigments can address corrosion, they can also contribute to coating stability issues such as gelling.
Crilat 4747 is a water-based styrene-acrylic emulsion binder specifically designed for use in corrosion resistant direct-to-metal applications, showing excellent adhesion to steel, aluminum, and galvanized metal in both wet and dry states.
Styrene-acrylic composition
Compatible with commonly used coalescents (such as DPnB and Texanol) and other additives

Benefits
- High gloss finish
- Excellent corrosion resistance (both flash rust and salt fog resistance)
- Excellent adhesion to ferrous substrate in both wet and dry states (steel, aluminum, and galvanized metal)
- High water and chemical resistance
- Excellent surface hardness and block resistance
- Excellent compatibility with additives and fillers
- Versatile for use in multiple formulation types, including low VOC water-based coatings
