NAGASE introduces GREEN DENACOL™, a line of plant-derived aliphatic epoxies that enables formulators to fulfill both performance and sustainability goals. Through environmentally conscious sourcing and advanced manufacturing techniques, NAGASE provides a series of versatile epoxy crosslinkers that create new possibilities for developers of high-performance sustainable solutions.

In addition to their eco-friendly composition, GREEN DENACOL™ grades maintain the same exceptional lot-to-lot quality and consistency as analogous offerings from the DENACOL™ EX Series.

DENACOL™ is a family of products comprised of specialty epoxies manufactured by glycidyl etherification/esterification of various alcohols and carboxylic acids using a proprietary process.

GREEN DENACOL™ grades are manufactured using palm oil-based epichlorohydrin exclusively. It is possible to create additional grades in the future.

Advantages

GREEN DENACOL™ GEX-252

GREEN DENACOL™ GEX-252 (hydrogenated bisphenol-A diglycidyl ether) is a high-performance difunctional epoxy produced by the glycidyl etherification of hydrogenated bisphenol A using palm oil based epichlorohydrin. It has an estimated 32% bio-based content and is pending USDA BioPreferred certification. GREEN DENACOL™ GEX-252 exhibits excellent resistance to moisture and UV degradation and its aliphatic structure enables superior weathering resistance for formulations compared to conventional bisphenol-A epoxies. This material can be used in a variety of coatings and adhesives applications as a crosslinker or binder, including in cationic UV cure systems as a non-yellowing reactive modifier.

GREEN DENACOL™ GEX-313

GREEN DENACOL™ GEX-313 is a specialized multifunctional epoxy produced by the glycidyl etherification of a naturally derived glycerol using palm oil-based epichlorohydrin. It has 100% USDA-certified bio-based content, is highly water-soluble, and imparts flexibility and enhanced mechanical properties for coatings and adhesives formulations when used as a crosslinker. As a low viscosity (150mPa*S) mixture of difunctional and trifunctional aliphatic epoxies, GREEN DENACOL™ GEX-313 makes for an excellent non-yellowing reactive diluent.

GREEN DENACOL™ GEX-512

GREEN DENACOL™ GEX-512 is a specialized multifunctional epoxy compound produced by the glycidyl etherification of palm oil based polyglycerol using palm oil based epichlorohydrin. It has an estimated 100% bio-based content and is pending USDA BioPreferred certification. GREEN DENACOL™ GEX-512 is highly water soluble and reacts well with a wide variety of epoxy curing agents. GREEN DENACOL™ GEX-512 has a wide variety of applications, such as a crosslinker for coatings and adhesives applications or as a reactive diluent.

GREEN DENACOL™ GEX-521

GREEN DENACOL™ GEX-521 is a specialized multifunctional epoxy compound produced by the glycidyl etherification of palm oil-based polyglycerol using palm oil-based epichlorohydrin. It has 100% USDA certified bio-based content, is highly water soluble, and reacts well with a wide variety of epoxy curing agents. GREEN DENACOL™ GEX-521 has a wide variety of applications, such as a multifunctional epoxy crosslinker for coatings and adhesives applications or as a reactive diluent.

GREEN DENACOL™ GEX-614B

GREEN DENACOL™ GEX-614B is a specialized tetrafunctional epoxy produced by the glycidyl etherification of corn-based sorbitol using palm oil-based epichlorohydrin. It has 87% USDA-certified bio-based content and provides both high crosslinking density and fast curing speeds to coatings and adhesives formulations. GREEN DENACOL™ GEX-614B is a versatile aliphatic epoxy that imparts resistance to weathering and mechanical wear in coating formulations. This waterborne epoxy can be reacted with standard epoxy curing agents such as amines, as well as acid functional acrylic resins and specialty curing agents for non-isocyanate (NISO) systems.

GREEN DENACOL™ GEX-622

GREEN DENACOL™ GEX-622 is a specialized tetrafunctional epoxy produced by the glycidyl etherification of corn-based sorbitol using palm oil-based epichlorohydrin. It has 100% USDA-certified bio-based content and provides both high crosslinking density and fast curing speeds to coatings and adhesives formulations. GREEN DENACOL™ GEX-622 is a versatile aliphatic epoxy that imparts resistance to water stains, weathering, and mechanical wear in coating formulations. GREEN DENACOL™ GEX-622 can be reacted with standard epoxy curing agents such as amines, as well as acid-functional acrylic resins and specialty curing agents for non-isocyanate (NISO) systems.
